Science at MDS is simply sensational!

Science at MDS is simply sensational! Driven by inquiry and the principles of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math), students engage with scientific concepts through their units of inquiry.   In the  Primary Years Programme (PYP), science incorporates the exploration of the biological, chemical and physical aspects of the natural world, and the relationships between them. Curiosity and ingenuity are encouraged and enable the student to develop a deeper understanding of the world. Reflection on scientific knowledge also helps students to develop a sense of responsibility regarding the impact of their actions on themselves, others, and their world. (Reference: the IB Science Scope and Sequence) When students arrive in middle school, they are encouraged to investigate issues through research, observation, and experimentation. They work both independently and collaboratively. Scientific inquiry fosters critical and creative thinking about research and design. It also allows students to identify assumptions and alternative explanations. We love sharing our love of science and had a wonderful time doing so at our STEAM night on February 22.Families circulated through various STEAM activities and made discoveries together! Activities, such as making molecules and DNA, were designed for all ages. All students who participate were entered into a drawing and winners were announced during lunch today!  Congratulations!
