On Saturday, August 18, 2019, the students and families of Morganton Day School devotedly met from 9 am-1 pm to help beautify the campus. Children, as young as 2 years old, volunteered by spreading mulch, planting flowerbeds, washing playground equipment, and pruning bushes. This “All-School Cleanup” is an annual event that helps prepare the school grounds for the beginning of the academic year, while providing a fun way for families to interact. Meredith McSwain, Director of Advancement, reflects, “For Forty years, MDS has been located in the heart of Downtown Morganton and we have always endeavored to be good stewards in our community. We teach our students that it is their civic duty to take care of their environment, and we start in our own back yard- literally.” The school combined this annual clean-up with the new Disney/Points of Light partnership, which celebrates family volunteerism by rewarding schools with Disney tickets for hosting family volunteering activities. The Disney tickets that are earned will be auctioned at the 40th Anniversary Ruby Gala, which is scheduled for Saturday, February 2 at 5 pm.
