Morganton, NC, Feb. 20, 2020 – The Blue Ridge Reading Council recently recognized twenty two local young writers out of over 75 entries for their exceptional work in the annual Young Authors Project and Forever Young state-wide writing contest. The prose of one student from Mull Elementary and seven from Morganton Day School were chosen to be published in an anthology, along with others from across the state. These eight talented writers will be honored at the North Carolina Reading Association’s state level Young Authors celebration in Raleigh.

The Blue Ridge Reading Council selected juried works from local young authors to submit to the North Carolina Reading Association for judging. Other regional reading councils did likewise, and state winners were chosen in January. Young authors may write prose or poetry, fiction, or nonfiction about the theme, which was “The Magical Power of Words” this year.

Students published in this year’s state Young Authors anthology from MDS include: Scarlett M., Avery C., Rutie C., Taryn B., Ella S., Madeline I., and Angela S.

Morganton Day School serves students from preschool to 8th grade with hands-on, inquiry-based learning and places great emphasis on reading and writing, as well as S.T.E.A.M. If you would like more information or a tour, please call (828)437-6782 or visit morgantondayschool.com.
