Our Greater Morganton Community

MDS first graders ventured into downtown Morganton to connect their classroom learning about communities with our town. They are investigating the central idea, "Communities are impacted by their resources and the decisions of citizens."

Students learned about the resources we have in our area and thought about the needs of citizens. Then they identified goods and services necessary to meet these needs. As they perused the streets of Morganton, students searched for the goods and services that play an important role in our community. They talked with business owners to discover their perspectives and determine how these goods and services contribute to a healthy and happy community.

Making connections and applying what is learned in the classroom is an important aspect of the Morganton Day School curriculum. We can wait to see how these children contribute as actively involved citizens of their communities one day!
