Why Choose an International Baccalaureate (IB)education?
The International Baccalaureate (IB) framework focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in school and in the world beyond. As an IB school, MDS offers a transformative experience for students, teachers, and our entire school community by providing an education that is engaging, relevant, challenging, and significant.
An IB education at Morganton Day School is comprised of the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for learners aged 3-12. The PYP is the first step in an IB education where students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning, collaborating with teachers and other students to deepen understanding and increase their confidence and self-motivation. Through actively engaging in integrated ongoing assessments, they become effective, self-motivated learners who can act on constructive feedback. This is the guiding philosophy for all students at Morganton Day School (junior kindergarten through eight grade).
Guided by six transdisciplinary themes of global significance, students broaden their learning. They develop their conceptual understandings, strengthening their knowledge and skills across, between, and beyond subject areas. Learning is set in both local and global contexts and students learn that they are not only an important part of our school learning community, but they begin to see how they can make a difference in the world.
