Congratulations Young Authors!

Working through the Blue Ridge Reading Council, Morganton Day School participates in the North Carolina Reading Association's Young Authors writing competition each year.

Weaving the writing competition into our curriculum provides real-world application of writing for purpose in various genres. With the guidance of teachers, every student from kindergarten through 8th grade reflected on this year’s theme, Beacons of Light Shining Towards a Brighter Future, and produced incredible stories, poems, and art.

Writing is a powerful way to explore and express one's thoughts, connect with others, and share many perspectives. This year’s theme encouraged students to consider how to serve as a beacon of light—whether by being there for others, recognizing those who have helped light the way, or turning life’s challenges into opportunities for growth and hope. Through poems and stories, students shared a piece of themselves, illuminating ideas that have the potential to uplift and inspire those around them.

BIG congratulations to the 42 MDS students whose writing moves onto state judging in January. We wish them luck!
