On February 8th, students at Morganton Day School enjoyed an artistic treat. Visiting artist Sid Luck, a 5th-generation potter from Seagrove, NC, has visited the school since 2015-16. Luck made some of his popular face jugs with 4th and 5th graders. MDS students watched his demonstration and learned how traditional pottery has been made for centuries. Then they decorated their own jugs with creative faces.

MDS art teacher Kara Jones said, “We enjoy having Sid Luck come each year to share his talent with us. Exposure to visiting artists inspires our student artists!”

On March 15th, 7th graders at Morganton Day School enjoyed making clay platters with local potter Hamilton Williams. Williams owns the Hamilton Williams Gallery in downtown Morganton, featuring his own small-batch pottery and the work of other talented artists.

Morganton Day School serves students from preschool to 8th grade and emphasizes hands-on, experiential learning with all grades. If you would like more information or a tour, please call (828)437-6782 or visit morgantondayschool.com.
