Cultural Pavilion - All about Argentina

On March 21st, students at Morganton Day School taught their families all about the South American country of Argentina. For the school’s fifth annual Cultural Pavilion, students researched Argentinian culture and presented their findings in the form of art, dance, music, food and drink, and written displays.

Each year, Spanish teacher Carolina Barbosa helps students choose a Latin-American country, learn about that country, and share their knowledge with families at the Cultural Pavilion event. Students researched and prepared display boards on many aspects of Argentinian culture ranging from government, religion, and food, to sports, family life, and body language. Elementary grades performed a folk dance, sang a song, and played traditional instruments.

Leading up to the event, students made and decorated costumes, painted a flag, drew a large map, and built models of a soccer stadium and the San Ignacio ruins. The night of the event, guests learned from and admired the students’ work on display. Samples of traditional Argentinian foods were served, including a tea called Yerba Mate and empanadas with salsa roja and chimichurri.
