IB Philosophy and The Value of Curricular Integration
The Future City presentation during Science Night demonstrated the value of curricular integration. At Morganton Day School, curricular integration is essential to the IB philosophy. MDS teachers develop Units of Inquiry that bring learning to life and integrate core content in meaningful ways. Pedagogically strong, this enhances the educational experience by breaking down traditional subject silos and fostering transdisciplinary learning. Students develop a more cohesive understanding of the world through this approach, applying knowledge and skills from various domains to solve real-world problems.
Our middle school STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) and lower school design thinking classes are strong examples of curricular integration happening within enrichment classes every day at MDS. Curriculum enhancements like Future City highlight and enrich our holistic approach to education and help students experience the interconnectedness of their learning, empowering them to think innovatively and collaboratively.
The IB philosophy with its integrated curriculum and global approach to education supports students to build essential skills such as teamwork, communication, and adaptability. Students excel academically as they become proactive, creative thinkers equipped to tackle the challenges of the future.
We are extremely fortunate to have talented educators and a school philosophy dedicated to providing the best education for our students. I am looking forward to a success-filled second half of the year.
