Science Night
Each academic year, MDS holds a Science Night in January. Science allows us to think critically, solve problems, and make connections. Students who engage with the principles of engineering become innovators and change-makers. At MDS, we celebrate creative problem-solving and seek opportunities to develop these skills.
What would it be like to live in a floating city?
Our 6th-8th graders have been exploring this concept in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) over the past five months. They researched the topic, experimented with various prototypes, composed an essay outlining their ideas, and built a city model. They’ve also come up with a creative presentation which showcased their innovative thinking. Science Night was their chance to practice their presentation, and engage in a question-and-answer session which helped our students prepare to attend the state Future City competition next weekend in Raleigh, NC.
After the presentation, families, together with their students, explored a variety of science topics through fun, hands-on activities. Tables were set up throughout our building with interactive, science-based explorations.
