No Place like the Middle

There's no denying that as parents, we want the very best for our children. From infancy, we ensure our children are in the right crib, traveling in the appropriate car seat, and, of course, consuming nutritious foods. As they become school age, time and care go into selecting the ideal school to guarantee the highest quality education. That decision led you to Morganton Day School. With inquiry-based instruction, small class sizes, and a global approach to education, you knew it was the best choice for your child.

As our children progress through the grades, middle school looms on the horizon as one of the most critical stages in their development. These years shape not only their academic skills but also their confidence, independence, and social-emotional well-being. Choosing the right learning environment during this time can make all the difference.

At Morganton Day School, we recognize that middle school is more than just a transition from elementary to high school—it’s when your child develops skills and habits that will support them throughout life. Higher-order thinking, time management, and leadership skills are cultivated through thoughtfully designed learning activities that cater to the specific needs of middle school students.

Our middle school offers more complex subjects and hones critical thinking skills that prepare students for high school and beyond. Alongside a rigorous, well-rounded curriculum, students participate in a year-long STEAM class. This opportunity for students to apply their knowledge sets the stage for future successes. Art, Music, PE, and Spanish complete our curriculum, allowing students to fully engage in all aspects of learning.

A strong educational foundation is just the beginning. Continuing to build upon it during this critical time in a child's life empowers them to grow academically into confident, capable individuals ready to face the future.

A strong foundation continues in the Middle,
Dr. Mikusa
