Community Resilience

We are incredibly grateful for our community's resilience during the recent hurricane and are extremely happy to be able to return quickly to school. Witnessing the outpouring of neighbors helping neighbors is a true testament to the strength of our community. Service isn't just something we do at school. It's everywhere.

As service to others is an integral part of an IB education at Morganton Day, teachers and students are working together to create opportunities for ways MDS students serve. Showing gratitude through small acts of service will empower students to see themselves as part of the global community.

Today, students and staff signed a giant thank-you banner that was then given to the linemen who continue to work tirelessly to restore power in our community. Students also showed their appreciation by hand drawing amazingly creative stickers, writing and mailing thank you postcards, painting “NC Strong” plaques, and helping to clean debris around school property. All students celebrated their own community involvement by writing and proudly displaying activities they helped with during the storm aftermath . These small gestures are a meaningful way for our students to show their appreciation and take part in the recovery process.

Hurricane Helene damaged many structures but our spirits are stronger than ever and we are excited for the opportunities ahead as we continue supporting each other and moving forward together.
