The Cultural Pavilion

At the beginning of each year, MDS students vote to learn more about a Spanish-speaking country, then study their culture and traditions throughout the academic year.

Students voted to learn more about Colombia this year and tomorrow, the MDS gymnasium will become a self-guided museum for families to see students' creations demonstrating their knowledge of:

  • culture

  • history

  • traditions

  • gestures

  • music

  • crafts

and even have a taste of some traditional foods! Gluten-free, vegetarian, and dairy-free options will be available. All the dishes are nut-free. Enjo

Eighth Grade is ready!

Get ready for the third grade performance! They also learned about the ancient civilizations from Colombia in Spanish class and made a poster to share their learning.

4th grade and Middle School focus on deeper aspects of the culture. They used research skills and worked on making a visual for the event. Some topics they researched are: history, common jobs, diseases, concept of beauty, immigration, gestures and non verbal communication, misconceptions and stereotypes, government, landforms, education, games, etc.

First graders made Marimondas. A mask used in a special festival in Colombia called “Festival de Barranquilla” which is celebrated from March 26th -29th. Elementary grades learned the Colombian culture by experiencing a cultural kit.

Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten made bracelets for you to take home!!! So cute!!
